5 cups all-purpose flour
2 pkgs dry yeast
1 3/4 cup water *(see below for other options)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup white sugar
1 tsp salt
Stir together 2 cups flour and the yeast. In a separate bowl, heat water, oil, sugar, and salt to lukewarm in the microwave. Add all at once to flour mixture, and beat until smooth, about 2 minutes.
Mix in enough of remaining flour to make a soft dough (I use all remaining 3 cups). Mix well. Dust a flat surface with flour, turn dough out onto floured surface, and let rest under bowl for 10 minutes.
Shape dough into rolls, etc. and please onto greased cookie sheet to rise until double in size. (For me, this step takes about 20-30 minutes).
Bake in a preheated 400 degree F oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
If I am making hamburger buns, I just really flatten out the ball of dough before the last rising on the cookie sheet.
* The original called for 1 cup milk plus 3/4 cup water. The liquid can be done as 1 cup milk or acceptable sub plus 3/4 cup water, or as all water.
