Recipe Created By: Amy Hugon
2 large onions
3 large red apples (preferably Fuji or Gala)
2 Tbsp margarine
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tsp salt
dash paprika
dash nutmeg
Slice onions. Saute in saucepan with margarine. While those are cooking, slice apples. When onions are soft, put apples on top of onions.
Mix sugar and spices together and put mixture on top of apples. Cover and lower heat. Let simmer about 10 minutes.
Remove cover. Let simmer another 5-10 minutes, until apples are nice and soft.
Even though there is no added liquid, this will make sufficient liquid.
To lower the calorie count, replace margarine with 1/4 cup apple juice.
Butter and Margarine: Butter is a dairy product made from cow’s milk. Margarine typically contains milk or soy, but there are milk-free and soy-free versions available.
