1 cup white corn syrup
1 1/2 cup sunflower or soynut butter (optional)
6 cups Cheerios or safe cereal
6 oz chocolate chips (optional)
1/4 cup sunflower or soynut butter (optional)

Directions

Cook together over medium heat the sugar and white corn syrup until it bubbles. Remove from heat.

Add the sunflower butter and stir thoroughly. Add in the cereal.

Press into an oiled 9×13″ pan.

Optional: Melt chocolate chips. Stir in sunflower butter. Frost the bars and cut while still warm.

Notes

Recipe adapted from Special K bars

This can be made with any safe cereal. I have used Kix and Cheerios. Original recipe called for flake style cereal.

These are good (and not as decadent) without the frosting!

Substitutions

Use any safe nut or seed butter (pn, soy, sunflower, pea, pumpkin seed).

Use any safe cold cereal.

Butter and Margarine: Butter is a dairy product made from cow’s milk. Margarine typically contains milk or soy, but there are milk-free and soy-free versions available.
Corn Substitutions: Corn is a common ingredient in products. Starch, modified food starch, dextrin and maltodextrin can be from corn. Consult with your physician to find out which corn derivatives you need to avoid. Many corn-free options are available in the US. Find out more about corn substitutions.
Gluten: Gluten is a protein found in specific grains (wheat, spelt, kamut, barley, rye). Other grains are naturally gluten-free but may have cross-contact with gluten-containing grains. Look for certified gluten-free products if you need to avoid gluten. Find out more about wheat and gluten substitutions.
Peanut Substitutions: There are many peanut-free products available in the US. Find out more about peanut substitutions.
