Food Allergy Awareness Week
Kids With Food Allergies celebrates Food Allergy Awareness Week every May. This year, it is May 12-18. And each year, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) declares May to be “National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month.” It’s a peak season for people with asthma and allergies, and a perfect time to educate patients, family, friends, school staff, coaches and others about these diseases.
More Than Food Allergies
More than 32 million people in the U.S. have food allergies (about 6 million are children).
Many families are managing their children’s food allergies, along with other related conditions. They have a great impact on caregivers, day care staff, school staff and activity leaders. Yet, food allergies are still widely misunderstood. With rising numbers, the effects will continue to increase.
A food allergy doesn't define your child. But it does affect them in ways others may not understand. This year, our focus is on raising awareness about how food allergies are more than just a physical condition and they impact every aspect of life. But it doesn't have to define you. Together, we can work to overcome the challenges of food allergies – in ways both big and small.
We want to help dispel the myths and help others see beyond the disease. Let’s show them how your child is more than food allergies. Show them how your child is a friend, athlete, artist, dancer or storyteller. Help them better understand food allergies and how important it is to keep your child safe. Because we need each other to create safe and more inclusive spaces, events, activities and classrooms.
We invite you to use our resources and tools below to spread awareness throughout Food Allergy Awareness Week. Here are just a few ways you can be a part of Food Allergy Awareness Week and National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month:
