In March 2011, Kids With Food Allergies attended the Natural Products Expo West, the largest natural, organic and healthy products trade show in the nation. This year's show included more allergy-friendly products than ever before – including the 22 products highlighted in this two-part report. Read on to discover what new foods are available and where you can find them! For your convenience, we have indicated if the product is vegan or Kosher with these symbols: V K. Additionally, we have separately indicated whether a product contains coconut versus other tree nuts. The Food & Drug Administration considers coconut a tree nut, however coconut allergy is not common and most allergists do not consider coconut a tree nut. Cross-Contamination Issues: According to a company spokesperson, there is “no chance of cross-contamination with any of the Top 8 allergens.” In 2010, a company spokesperson told KFA that the product is made in China in a dedicated “top 8 allergen-free” facility. The company conducts quarterly allergen testing; Disney, Walmart and Costco also conduct their own regular quality and safety tests. The company's website states: “Our in-house artisan candies are free of Big 8 allergens: peanuts, treenuts, wheat, soy, dairy, fish and shellfish. There are no Big 8 allergens in the kitchen at all. The ingredients in our house made products are all Kosher certified.
