Food Allergy Treatment Survey Study
Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is conducting a research study that looks at food-related allergic reactions in children that caused them to be seen by a medical professional for the FIRST TIME.

Parents (of food-allergic children) are invited to complete a brief questionnaire (15 minutes).

The goal of this study is to evaluate whether food-related allergic reactions are properly treated when it is not yet known that the child is prone to food allergies (the FIRST TIME the child is seen by a medical professional for a food-related allergic reaction).

This research hopes to raise awareness about food-related allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal disorder, and emphasize to medical professionals the proper treatment for these reactions.

Is Your Child's Food Allergy Testing Right?
"Your child has tested positive for a food allergy, but can the allergy testing results be trusted? The odds say probably not — it takes more than a simple blood test to determine whether your child has a bona fide food allergy."

Are Kids' ER Visits for Food Allergies on the Rise?
"Researchers at Children's Hospital Boston found that the number of food-induced allergic reactions treated in their ER more than doubled over six years -- from 164 cases in 2001, to 391 in 2006."

Tips on Explaining Food Allergy to Grandparents (Video)
Dr. Robert Wood answers the question, “How do you explain food allergy to grandparents?”

FAAN/FAI Statement on Egg Allergy and the Seasonal and H1N1 Influenza Vaccines
"For many years, it has been recommended that children with severe egg allergy avoid flu vaccines, which contain a very small amount of egg protein. As new studies emerge, and as manufacturers label and test their products for egg content, it is likely that guidelines for administering these vaccines will be more liberal in encouraging vaccination with less concern, less testing, and in single doses without using multiple smaller shots that are uncomfortable."
