Are Vaccines Safe for Food-Allergic Children?

Many schools across the nation are now holding open houses and registration for the 2010-2011 school year. When you have a food-allergic child, you have to do a lot of planning to make sure that you, your child and your child's school will be ready to manage your child's food allergies. KFA provides many resources to help facilitate this process.
KFA Rising Stars
Part of that planning may involve school-required vaccinations. Our Medical Advisory Team has recently provided updated information about vaccines, ingredients and contraindications in the resources provided below.

As always, please discuss this information and any questions you have regarding the safety of vaccinations with your child's allergist.

In the meantime, Valentine's Day is almost here! In this issue of eNews, you will find several ideas for making this holiday safe for your allergic-child.

Tips for Finding a Babysitter
"We're more than ready to find someone we trust to watch him while we go out sometimes...but I am not having much luck."

How do you find caregivers you trust to handle food allergies? Read other parents' suggestions or share some of your success stories.

First Birthday, But I Don't Bake Well!
Allergy-Friendly Cupcake Cake "My daughter turns one tomorrow and I want to make her a safe "smash" cake, but I am not the best cook in the world! I bought that giant cupcake-shaped cake pan and have been practicing, but I need major help with making it look pretty with icing."

Making a safe, but nicely decorated birthday cake is a common concern for our parents. Two of the best benefits of belonging to KFA are our allergy-friendly recipes and being able to reach out and ask advice from other parents. With the help of our community, a very special, successful cake was made for this little girl.
