2011 Fundraising Drive: Give the Gift of Hope!
Thanks to the support of donors like you, KFA is here as a lifeline when parents feel alone dealing with food allergies. You give us the resources to offer support and practical information to help their children stay safe, healthy, and included in daily activities.

You can help families today as part of our year end fundraising drive. By donating, you are supporting the ongoing education and support efforts families so frequently need. We are about half-way to our goal of $50,000. With your help, we know we can reach it! All funds go directly to help keep kids with food allergies safe and healthy and we appreciate any amount you are able to donate.

Nancy, one of our members, wrote to say, "In a lot of ways KFA helped save my daughter's life yesterday. Because of [KFA] I became much more comfortable with the fact that if I needed to use an Epipen® it wasn't a scary thing. I didn't have to think about how to get to the hospital, I already knew from what I had read here that I needed to call 911. Because of [KFA], I was educated enough to do what I needed to do."

By supporting our work to educate families, you help save lives and improve the quality of life for children and their families. Please consider making a gift today. Even $5 or $10 makes a difference!

News

Every Parent Can Help a Child Manage and Avoid an Allergic Reaction
"Managing food allergies can be challenging and often impacts the surrounding community, not just the child's immediate family. Allergic reactions to food must be avoided and prepared for at all times and in all settings — including home, school, camp, play dates and parties. The necessary precautions can make a child feel isolated, and at times can spark feelings of resentment and frustration in the community."

Too Few Doctors Using the Right Food Allergy Test
"Physicians may not be conducting the test due to the length of time it takes, three to six hours, and the low reimbursement for a food challenge."

Proposed Federal Legislation Mirrors Illinois Epinephrine Law
"The death of a Chicago seventh-grader who suffered an allergic food reaction at a classroom party last year led to a change in Illinois law that not only encouraged schools to stock epinephrine but allowed school nurses to give the potentially lifesaving drug to any student."

The School Access to Emergency Epinephrine Act has been introduced in Congress as Senate Bill 1884 and has been referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
