NEW! Food Allergy Statistics for U.S. Children
The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta issued a report in 2008 revealing that the number of young people who have a food or digestive allergy is approximately three million. The study also found that boys and girls have about the same rate of food allergy, and young children under age five had higher rates of food allergy than those ages five to 17 years. Find other interesting facts by scanning these highlights. We've put this report in our resources section so you will have quick access to it in the future.

Mount Sinai Recruiting for Food Allergy Research
Peanut Immunology Clinical Trial
"Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City is recruiting peanut-allergic individuals (12 -40 years old) for a clinical trial in the treatment of peanut allergy, called peanut immunotherapy. This research project, headed by Dr. Sampson and Dr. Sicherer, is trying to see if very small exposure of peanut daily (via liquid drops under the tongue) can cause desensitization and eventually permanent tolerance to peanut.
If you live in New York City or in the tri-state area and would like to get more information, you can contact the clinical coordinator, Jessica, at (212) 241-7637 or jessica.chao@mssm.edu

Baked Milk Clinical Trial
"We invite milk-allergic children four through 10 years of age to participate in a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored clinical research trial at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. This project, headed by Dr Sampson and Dr Nowak-Wegrzyn, involves adding baked products containing milk, e.g. muffins, cakes, pizza, to their diet; follow up visits are planned every six to 12 months.
