New Food Allergy-Friendly Foods for Kids
KFA recently sent a representative to the Natural Products Expo in Anaheim, CA, to find and report on new foods that cater to food allergic consumers.
These special reports are published by KFA twice a year to offer parents the latest information about food allergy-friendly foods.
In this issue of eNews, you will find the Spring 2009 New Food Allergy-Friendly Foods Special Report. It contains company and product information, including cross-contamination issues, allergen information and purchase locations.
This special report is funded through the kind support of our donors and sponsors. To support our work, become a Family Member, make a donation, or support a fundraiser.
Many thanks,

As we wrap up National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month, here are some important warnings about childhood asthma and a new, free asthma storybook for kids:
'Summer Break' Doesn't Apply to Asthma Medications
The American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology is warning that it can be dangerous to reduce or stop taking asthma medications during the summer. So-called "drug holidays" lead to spikes in hospitalizations and emergency department visits due to asthma.
Beware Bogus Asthma Nebulizer Medications (Video)
[KFA registration as an Associate Member is required to view]
The Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics (AANMA) warns consumers about fake and unapproved nebulizer medications for asthma.

Some of these topics may discuss foods. Remember to always verify the safety of any products mentioned on our forums to make sure they are truly safe for your child's unique food allergy issues.
Duncan Hines label change
"Just bought a box of Duncan Hines fudge marble cake mix without checking the label. I'm ready to make it and I just saw that the new box says “Manufactured on equipment that also process tree nuts.” Ugh! I've used this in the past, when [the] box had no warning. I still have some old boxes. Do I use the old box without the warning? Did they change manufacturing processes or did they just decide to add that bit of information?"
A good discussion that reveals that some food companies have different manufacturers, and therefore different labeling for the same product. Reading labels is key, but sometimes a phone call to the food company is the best way to find out all of the allergen information about a product.
Sunscreen — What did I miss?
"DS had a reaction to the sunscreen I bought this year...turned beet red everywhere the new stuff touched his skin. I put it on him twice and got the same reaction both times. I avoided sunscreens with obvious nut oils. What did I miss on this label?"
Parents share their recommendations for allergy-friendly sunblocks and sunscreens for kids with sensitive skin.
