NEW! Is Your Food-Allergic Child's Diet Nutritionally Balanced?
When you have to eliminate foods from your child's diet, important nutrients for growth and development can be neglected. While a child with a balanced diet may have adequate nutritional stores to last through a period of testing and a short-term (2-week) elimination diet, a child with a long-term restricted diet must find safe sources of nutrients to ensure a nutritionally-balanced diet.
This article by Debra Indorato, R.D., L.D.N., a registered dietitian who serves on KFA's Medical Advisory Team, provides an overview of the important things you need to know if you are managing a restricted diet.

AAAAI: Breastfeeding Prevents Wheezing But Increases Risk of Eczema
"Breastfeeding is recommended for the prevention of eczema, asthma, and allergy, particularly in families at high-risk of eczema, asthma, and allergy. However, recent studies have raised the concern that breast-feeding might not protect children after all but might rather increase the risk."
AAAAI: Gaps in the Care of Patients with Anaphylaxis
This systematic review of studies found gaps in the knowledge of use of automatic epinephrine injectors in regards to physicians and patients. In all, the authors found 202 "gaps" in the appropriate management of anaphylaxis.
Suffering with Allergies? Try Tailoring Treatment to Your Symptoms

Need Kindergarten Advice
" My son is entering kindergarten this fall and I am terrified. I am going to have to convince the school somehow that his epi must be in his classroom and must also follow him to lunch/recess/gymnasium, etc. How should I go about approaching this subject when I meet with the school? What should I say? Should I get a letter of medical necessity?"
When food-allergic kids first enter school, it is very stressful for parents. Find out how other parents have worked with their schools to create safe school plans for their children.
I Had to Give the EpiPen® to My 15 Month-Old
" My 15 month-old son took a piece of chocolate off of the table, I was RIGHT there, and before I could pry it out of his hands he took one bite. In less than a minute, his throat started to close and he was struggling to breathe. He tried to "talk" and it was barely a whisper because he was so hoarse. I gave him the epi which honestly wasn't as scary as I thought it would be — watching him gasp for air was the huge fear, not the treatment."
One mother shares her story of anaphylaxis and how KFA helped her to be direct and assertive for her son's care.
