Our Support Forums Are Now Open to All!
Over the past several months, we've been working on plans to open our online support forums to all Associate as well as Family Members. I have exciting news to share with you: our support forums are now open to all and you can fully participate in our online community by simply logging in or registering (which is free).
We are making this change to strengthen the support we provide to the food allergy community-at-large. This is important for several reasons: 1) to better serve the public as part of our nonprofit mission; 2) to allow our online community to become larger and stronger as more parents share and connect with one another; and 3) to acquire a larger base of financial support that will help KFA better serve the food allergy community going forward.
I am also excited to announce that Deanna Graham, M.S.W., has taken on the role as KFA's new Online Community Program Manager as we move to this new phase in KFA's growth. Deanna's 15 years' of experience in social work, including leading a variety of support groups, make her a perfect fit for this new and important role. Deanna is also a KFA member and the parent of a young child with multiple food allergies.
As we make this transition, your financial support will be just as important as ever. Your support helps ensure that families who need day-to-day support, food/cooking help, and information can count on KFA to be there for them. In addition, we still encourage you to become a KFA Family Member. Family Members are the "backbone" of KFA, and enjoy exclusive access to our Safe Eats recipes, Support Net subscription and other additional benefits.
I hope you are as delighted about our improved access to online peer support for families as we are!
All the best,
Lynda Mitchell
President
Food Allergy Resource Center
Each month, KFA provides new or updated food allergy articles to educate families, caregivers and the public about different topics regarding food allergies. Premium resources are available to KFA Family Members only.
Fundraisers to Benefit Kids With Food Allergies
We want to thank everyone who participated in the Peanut Free Planet and Allerific fundraising event earlier this month. Everyone we heard from were really happy with their orders and the gift bags they received.
Thanks to all of the companies who donated samples or coupons for the gift bags: SunButter, Sweet Alexis, AllerEnergy, Surf Sweets, Beyond A Peanut, Glee Gum, HomeFree, Enjoy Life, Hilton School Safe Soybutter, Seth Ellis SunCups, Lisa Cooks Allergen Free, NoNuts Peabutter, Andean Dream and Sunwise Foods.
It's not too late to participate in this month's Pampered Chef fundraiser for KFA. KFA helps children with food allergies and anaphylaxis by helping their families cope with dietary restrictions, lifestyle adjustments, fear and isolation through education, peer support, food and cooking assistance, and outreach programs. Your support furthers our mission to improve quality of life for families who manage food allergy.

Peanut Allergy Misdiagnosed in 2 out of 3 Cases
Researchers in Sweden investigated a new generation of sophisticated allergy tests not yet available in the United States. This new test shows promise in distinguishing peanut allergy from birch pollen allergy. Current allergy testing, "either in the skin or the blood, cannot tell the difference and pinpoints the patient as allergic to both peanut and birch pollen."
Kids' Asthma Can Go Unnoticed and Reduce Physical Activity
"Researchers found that the more young children's airways reacted to air temperature and dryness making breathing harder, how ever subtly, the more their level of physical activity declined. The authors observed that in this type of subclinical asthma there were no clear symptoms of asthma and the condition was not realized by both parents and doctors."
