Food-Allergic Children May Feel Unsafe in Schools

Study Challenges High Rate of Peanut Allergies
"Peanut allergies may be less common than previously believed, according to a new study based on allergy diagnoses in England.
However, the study also found that while the proportion of the population that's affected by peanut allergies — that is, the prevalence — is small, it has grown over time."
The Peanut Puzzle: Could the Conventional Wisdom on Children and Allergies Be Wrong? (Subscription to The New Yorker required to read full article)
"‘This increase in the incidence of food allergy is real,’ Sampson said. He cannot say what is causing the increase, but he now thinks the conventional approach to preventing food allergies is misconceived. For most of his career, he believed, like most allergists, that children are far less likely to become allergic to problematic foods if they are not exposed to them as infants. But now Sampson and other specialists believe that early exposure may actually help prevent food allergies."
