Food Allergy News and Research
Children With Egg Allergies Can Safely Receive Flu Vaccine, Multi-Center Study Finds
Given the prevalence of the flu this season, this new study is good news for children who have egg allergies.
Egg Allergy Is No Longer a Contraindication for the Flu Vaccine
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) no longer considers egg allergy a contraindication to receiving an influenza vaccine. This is based on several research studies conducted in recent years, which conclusively show the injectable influenza vaccine is safe for children with egg allergy.
Iowa Court Rules Food Allergy a Disability
The Iowa Court of Appeals recently ruled that a child's food allergy is a disability protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ruling will affect schools, child care centers, day camps, and other recreational programs for children -- which the ADA says cannot discriminate against disabled children.

Food Allergy Awareness: Warnings on Food Labels Are Voluntary
Did you know?
The U.S. Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 requires food labels (on foods regulated by the FDA) to list which of the eight major food allergens (milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, and crustacean shellfish) are present as ingredients in prepared foods.
However, the law does not require or suggest wording for warning labels, such as "may contain trace amounts of nuts" or "may be prepared in a facility that also uses nuts." The inclusion of these warning labels is voluntary.
